Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how SQL Drills ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and handles information across:
- SQL Drills at https://sqldrills.com — our free, no-account SQL practice tool (the "Free Tool"); and
- SQL Tutor at https://tutor.sqldrills.com — our subscription-based, AI-powered SQL tutoring tool that requires an account (the "Subscription Tool").
Together, the Free Tool and Subscription Tool are referred to as the "Tools." Sections below are marked to indicate whether they apply to both Tools or only one.
By using either Tool, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Free Tool (SQL Drills): We do not collect any personally identifiable information directly. No account, form, or personal details are required to use the Free Tool.
Subscription Tool (SQL Tutor): Using SQL Tutor requires creating an account, which involves providing:
- Email address and password — used to create and secure your account. Passwords are stored in encrypted (hashed) form by our authentication provider and are never visible to us in plain text.
- Your submitted SQL queries and follow-up questions — sent to a third-party AI provider to generate personalized tutoring feedback (see Section 3 below).
- Billing and subscription information — including your subscription plan, status, and a customer identifier used to connect your account to our payment processor. We do not collect or store your full payment card details ourselves (see Section 4 below).
Both Tools: We use Google Analytics, which automatically collects:
- Log and usage data: Your IP address, browser type and version, pages visited, time spent on pages, and other usage and diagnostic information.
- Device data: Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet), operating system, screen resolution, and browser settings.
- Location data: Approximate geographic location derived from your IP address (such as country, region, and city). We do not collect precise GPS location data.
2. How We Use This Information
Analytics data is used solely to understand how visitors use the Tools, so we can improve their content and functionality. We do not use this data to identify you personally, and we do not sell or share this data with any third parties beyond the service providers named in this policy.
Account information for SQL Tutor is used to: authenticate you, provide access to subscription features, process and manage your subscription, generate AI-powered tutoring feedback, and communicate with you about your account (such as password resets or billing notices).
3. AI-Powered Feedback (SQL Tutor only)
SQL Tutor uses OpenAI's API to generate personalized feedback on the SQL queries and follow-up questions you submit. When you use these features:
- Your submitted query text, the exercise context, and your follow-up questions are sent to OpenAI to generate a response.
- This data is transmitted to and processed by OpenAI in accordance with OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
- We do not knowingly submit personal information (such as your name or email) as part of these AI requests — only the SQL-related content of your submission.
4. Payment Processing (SQL Tutor only)
Subscription payments for SQL Tutor are handled by Polar Software Inc. ("Polar"), a third-party payment processor and merchant of record. When you subscribe:
- Your payment card details are entered directly into Polar's secure checkout and are never received or stored by us.
- Polar provides us with limited information necessary to manage your subscription, such as your subscription status, plan, and a customer identifier.
- Polar's handling of your payment information is governed by Polar's Privacy Policy.
5. Data Storage
Account and subscription data for SQL Tutor is stored using Supabase, a third-party database and authentication provider. Data is protected using access controls (Row Level Security) that restrict each user to their own account data. Supabase's handling of this data is governed by Supabase's Privacy Policy.
6. Email Communications
Account-related emails for SQL Tutor — such as sign-up confirmation and password reset emails — are delivered through Resend, a third-party email delivery service. Resend processes your email address solely to deliver these messages on our behalf. Resend's handling of this data is governed by Resend's Privacy Policy.
7. Third-Party Service Providers — Summary
In addition to the details above, here is a consolidated list of the third-party service providers used across the Tools:

8. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC, on both Tools. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information about your use of the Tools. This information is transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States.
Google's ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics is governed by the Google Analytics Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
9. Cookies and Browser Storage
Free Tool: Uses cookies solely through Google Analytics to collect usage data as described above.
Subscription Tool: In addition to Google Analytics cookies, SQL Tutor uses browser local storage (not traditional cookies) to keep you signed in between visits and to remember your display preferences (such as light/dark mode). This data stays in your browser and is not accessible to other websites.
We do not use any advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or other cookies for marketing purposes on either Tool. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, though disabling them may affect the functionality of some features, including staying signed in to SQL Tutor.
10. Data Retention
We do not directly store personal data collected on the Free Tool. For SQL Tutor, we retain your account and subscription data for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account or it is otherwise closed, we will delete or anonymize your account data within a reasonable time, except where retention is required for legal, tax, or dispute-resolution purposes. Our third-party providers (Google, OpenAI, Polar, Supabase, Resend) retain data according to their own retention policies.
11. Children's Privacy
The Tools are not directed at children under the age of 13, and SQL Tutor accounts may not be created by anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information through either Tool, please contact us and we will take steps to address it.
12. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your data, including:
- California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal data is collected about you, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal data. We do not sell personal data.
- EU/EEA residents (GDPR): You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing.
To exercise any privacy rights, request deletion of your SQL Tutor account and associated data, or ask questions about your data, contact us at sqldrills@gmail.com.

The Tools may contain links to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of either Tool after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
